I still think your OF is salvageable... or maybe not, dpends if
the boot chime in OF was overriden. There is a backup copy of OF in
the boot ROM, but it lacks the boot sound and tries to use the one
from the main OF, so if that fails, nothing works.

You trigged the backup copy by booting with the firmware upgrade
key combo, which is typically the cmd-power one, but don't just
press cmd-power, rather, keep it pressed for at least 5 seconds,
you should head a "tone". It's possible that on this machine, the
actual combo is different though.
