When you hear the long beep, release the keys. What do happen ? Do
it try to boot ? Do you hear the normal boot shime ?

If not, try, when the loong beep happen, to release the keys and then
immediately press cmd-opt-P-R and keep that pressed until you hear a
double boot shime
