Re: Unable to boot on linux

Hello,

Thank you Philipp and Ethan for your replies. I'm
sorry for my late reply, but I was away for a few
days.

"dev:hda3"? I have not seen this syntax in the yaboot
man pages... Maybe I can try...
I am using yaboot 1.3.11, by the way. Here is my
yaboot.conf:

---
boot=/dev/hda2
device=hd:
fstype=hfs
install=/usr/lib/yaboot/yaboot
magicboot=/usr/lib/yaboot/ofboot

macosx=/dev/hda10
enablecdboot
enableofboot

delay=10
timeout=40
message=Welcome to Moonlight!
fgcolor=green
bgcolor=black

image=/boot/kernel-2.6.1

Actually, I always fallback into the second yaboot
boot stage.

Here is a manual copy of mac-fdisk:

#     type                name    size   system
hda1  Apple_partition_map Apple   31.5k  Partition map
hda2  Apple_Bootstrap     bootstrap 800k NewWorld
bootblock
hda3  Apple_UNIX_SVR2     root    256M   Linux native
hda4  Apple_UNIX_SVR2     rootimage 256M Linux native
hda5  Apple_UNIX_SVR2     usr     3G     Linux native
hda6  Apple_UNIX_SVR2     var     512M   Linux native
hda7  Apple_UNIX_SVR2     home    3G     Linux native
hda8  Apple_UNIX_SVR2     swap    256M   Linux swap
hda9  Apple_Free          Extra   10.8G  Free space
hda10 Apple_HFS  Apple_HFS_Untitled_3  9.9G  HFS
hda11 Apple_Free                  8k     Free space

Actually, I noticed that just before the CD kernel
boots, OF prints some lines of log: something like
"opening display", a couple of other lines and then
"calling quiesce ..." After this, the kernel boots,
the text is white on black and the penguin is display
on the upper right corner (frame buffer).
On the other hand, when I try to boot the kernel on
hd, I think an error occurs somewhere in OF. Here is a
manual report of what is displayed by OF:

---
opening display XXX
copying OF device tree ... done
&stext=0x01400000 phy=0x01400000 (
result[0]=0xffffffff result[1]=0x01400000 )
Initializing fake screen: ATY, Via_A
address:9c008000
Calling quiesce ...
returning 0x01400000 from prom_init
Invalid memory access at %SRR0: 01403d44 %SRR1:
00083030
---
and I have an OF prompt where I can just shutdown the
laptop or boot MacOSX.
Maybe this invalid memory access shows some flaws at
some point...

Thank you very much for your help!

  Fabrice
