the only difference between ybin and mkofboot is mkofboot zeros the
bootstrap partition before doing the same things as ybin (they are the
same program).

it will not erase all your mac partitions unless you have in your
yaboot.conf: boot=/dev/hda or boot=/dev/macospartition

as long as boot= points to your 800K Apple_Bootstrap partition your
perfectly safe.
