thats not good, you should have a timeout of at LEAST 1 second to
avoid this situation.

no, if you have extremely good timing a well placed tab might halt the
boot process, but I doubt it.

your best bet is boot into OF (command-opt-o-f) and perform the following

boot hd:\\:tbxi linux.old

where linux.old is the label name of your working kernel image.

replace hd: with appropriate OF device of your bootstrap partition.
(printenv boot-device)

yaboot will behave as it normally does except the default label will
be what is supplied on the command line as opposed to default= or the
first image= section.

if you don't have a linux.old or so defined (bad you) you can also
specify a path, eg:

boot hd:\\:tbxi /boot/vmlinux.old root=/dev/hda3 ro
